RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - The woman convicted in a deadly hit-anmd-run in Richmond's  Shockoe Bottom was sentenced Wednesday.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jennifer Slemp received a two-year suspended sentence, but will have to perform 500 hours of community service.

CBS 6 News' Tracy Sears said Slemp's clean driving record was a factor in her sentencing.

Slemp testified that she was in Shockoe Bottom to drop off her husband, who was going to drive home a friend who had been to drinking, when the accident happened.

She said she did not realize that she had hit anyone since she never saw the two men fall into the street since they fell between her front and tires. She said she assumed she had hit a pothole.

Slemp will be on supervised probation, her license will be revoked for a year and she will have to write an essay for the judge.

Slemp was found found guilty of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death in August. She was facing up to 10 years in prison for the crash that killed 25-year-old David Boyd and badly injured Brendon Ellis.

An eyewitness captured much of the April 21 incident on cell phone video. In the video, a fight can be heard spilling out into East Canal Street, where the two victims were spotted falling into the street.

Moments later a car horn sounds, and the the situation becomes more hysterical as a witnesses yells that a passing car had ran over the two victims' heads.

Tracy Sears will have the latest on this developing story on CBS 6 News starting at 5 p.m.
