RICHMOND, Va. -- An approaching storm system will continue to increase and thicken the cloud cover and showers will move in from the southwest Friday afternoon, reaching the metro mid to late afternoon. Friday highs will reach the low and mid 50s in the metro, but it will be cooler well west of I-95.

Rainfall intensity will increase rapidly heading into Friday evening, and the period between 6 p.m. and midnight will be quite wet. Some areas could pick up over 1/2 inch of rain.

Rain will turn more widely scattered overnight and should end by around daybreak Saturday. Lows will drop to around 40°.

Clouds will decrease, leading to a partly to mostly sunny day.

It will still be mild with highs in the low to mid 50s.

A cold front will bring some colder air at the end of the day Saturday, and overnight lows will be close to freezing.

On Sunday, a storm system will bring some light snow to the area.  Accumulations will not be significant, and mostly on grassy surfaces.
