STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond is working to identity human remains found outside a Stafford County home. Investigators are also working to determine how the person died.

Stafford Sheriff's deputies found the remains over the weekend while searching property along the 800 block of Belle Plains Road in the White Oak area of Stafford, according to Stafford County Sheriff's Office Major David Decatur. Decatur said deputies were prompted to search the property after they received a tip to do so.

Last week Stafford deputies arrested Dennis Paul Benzie on multiple charges, including distribution of meth and possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony. Benzie lives on the property where the remains were discovered.

Investigators said it appeared the remains had been there for "some time" and that the situation is being investigated as a homicide.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Stafford Sheriff Office (540)658-4400 or call Crime Solvers at (540)659-2020.
