Martin’s to no longer sell ammonia treated beef

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The Martin’s grocery store chain announced Thursday that it would stop buying so-called “pink slime” meat.

The chain’s parent company, Giant Food Stores, said in a news release that it wouldn’t purchase ammonia-treated ground beef filler after shoppers complained.

In a statement, the company said:

“While the US Department of Agriculture has indicated this product is safe for consumption and complies with all applicable standards for lean beef, many of our customers have voiced concern regarding Finely Textured Beef.”

The chain also thanked shoppers for their feedback.
