LANCASTER COUNTY, Va. -- Officials said schools in rural Lancaster County will reopen Thursday after investigators found "no credible threat" to social media posts that forced officials to cancel classes early Wednesday.
"All Lancaster County Public Schools will be open tomorrow. After an extensive investigation by law enforcement today, it has been determined that there is no credible threat," school district officials said in a Facebook post just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
However, school district officials saidadditional law enforcement will be on hand at Lancaster High School Thursday.
The news comes after officials dismissed classes at 11 a.m. Wednesday as a precaution in a "coordinated decision between law-enforcement and school administration."
Sheriff Patrick McCrainey told Middle Neck News the posts were related to a shooting at a house party in Middlesex County Saturday that left an 18-year-old man dead.
"Please be assured that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority," school district officials said.
The closure impacted the county’s primary, middle and high schools.
