HIGHLAND SPRINGS, Va. -- Lightning shattered a large tree which fell on multiple homes on North New Avenue and North Mapleleaf Avenue in Highland Springs early Friday morning, according to neighbors.
"I just heard a big crash and I looked out the window and there it was," one neighbor said.
Neighbors said one woman suffered serious injuries when the tree landed on her home.
“We’re just going to have to do some prayers for her and hope she’s okay," another neighbor said. "Kuckily we're OK and the lady next door is okay, but her house is destroyed.”
More than seven inches of rain fell in eastern Henrico Friday morning.
The rain flooded roads and prompted the shutdown of Richmond International Airport.
The airport reopened at about 9 a.m.
