RICHMOND, Va. – Christmas on MacArthur has been cancelled ahead of a storm system moving into the area.
The 13th annual event was scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Thousands show up for the parade down the 4000 block of MacArthur. There is a stage and vendors with locally made holiday items for sale.
Christmas on MacArthur has become one of the largest single donors to Toys for Tots, the U.S. Marine Corps annual toy drive.
Organizer Teri Phipps said that the decision was hard to make but that the inclement weather was a huge concern. She also said that people who still wish to donate to Toys for Tots can do so.
Any member of the Bellvue Merchants Association is accepting toys this weekend. That means all the restaurants and shops on MacArthur that have a box for collection.
On Sunday, Phipps will collect toys at her studio at 4117 Crestwood Road.
If you would like to donate directly to Toys for Tots, the Richmond-area location is 6000 Strathmore Road. The contact info is here.
