RICHMOND, Va. -- CBS 6 reporter Jake Burns surprised a local Special Olympics athlete as part of the CBS 6 Month of Giving.

Hayden goes to middle school in Chesterfield County, and loves playing football, basketball, and other sports on his Special Olympics teams.  Jake picked out some sports goodies, including a basketball and football as well as a Redskins hat, from Dick’s Sporting Goods, and gave them to Hayden outside his home.

“I played college football back in the day, so I picked you out a nice Nike,” Jake said. “Those things throw pretty good.”

Jake also gave the deserving family a Walmart gift card to help out during the holidays.

Every day through December, a CBS 6 team member will surprise someone in the community with a random act of kindness.

The CBS 6 Month of Giving is possible due to a partnership with Union Bank and Trust.
