MIDLOTHIAN, Va. -- The investigation continued Tuesday into a Monday night shootig at the Addison at Swift Creek apartments off Hull Street Road in Midlothian. Police are still looking for the person who fired shots at an off-duty sheriff's deputy parked in the neighborhood.
"In this neighborhood, you don't expect it," neighbor Anthony Thomasello said.
The deputy's cruiser was riddled with bullets around 9 p.m. Monday, police said.
"I was very scared," neighbor Melanie Wise said. "He usually will drive around the parking lot at night. He's a very nice man. He always talks to us and everything. He always carries treats for the dogs in the car."
The sheriff's deputy was not injured and did not return fire.
Detectives scoured the apartment complex in hopes of finding clues that could lead them to the shooter.
"Especially with everything going on with violence toward cops. It's scary. I wouldn't expect it to happen here because it's just a quiet area," Wise said.
Apartment managers said they have security cameras installed around the pool, fitness center and the club room, but not at the front office. They said they would re-evaluate security procedures and decide more cameras were needed.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.
