HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The mother of the Henrico man arrested for murdering his father said she believed her son was innocent and should be let out of jail. Tammy Luedecke added she did not consider her son a flight risk.

The mother made the comments following a Henrico court hearing Monday morning.

Michael Andrew Luedecke, 21, is accused of shooting and killing his father 51-year-old Jeffrey Michael Luedecke Sunday night. Luedecke's body was found in his home along the 8800 block of Midway Road home, near Parham Rd. and Patterson Ave., about 8 p.m.

"Detectives’ investigation revealed Michael Andrew Luedecke shot his father after the two were involved in a verbal argument that escalated," Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney wrote in an email. "Michael Andrew Luedecke was charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony."

Toney confirmed to CBS 6 reporter Joe St. George that Jeff Luedecke died at the scene.

In Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Court Monday, it was revealed Atty. Jeffrey Oppleman will represent Michael Luedecke in this case.

A tentative bond hearing has been tentatively set for November 25 at 11 a.m.

A preliminary hearing for trial has been set for January 13 at 10:45 a.m.

Neighbors told CBS 6 reporter Joe St. George that Michael, Tammy and Jeffrey all lived in the home.

"Jeff was a nice guy, a handyman who did things for people," Linda Stone, who is the Luedecks next door neighbor, said.
