    The Richmond Kickers met Swansea City for the second year in a row at City Stadium.  Last year, the Kickers beat Swansea.  This time around, Swansea picked up a 2-1 over the Kickers in front of over 8,100 fans.   • Flying Squirrels will host 2019 Eastern League All-Star Game

    The Eastern League awarded the Richmond Flying Squirrels the 2019 All Star Game.  It marks just the second time since the Diamond was opened in 1985 that the Mid-Summer Classic will be played at the stadium.  The last was in 1992 and the Triple A game when the Richmond Braves were in town.     Former Petersburg standout and current Tennessee Titan offensive guard Quinton Spain returned to his hometown over the weekend to hold his second Football Skills Camp.  Almost 150 kids were at the Andrew White stadium on the Petersburg High campus to improve on their skills and meet a current NFL star that played on the very same field the camp was held.   • Varina’s Michael Robinson inducted to VHSL Hall of Fame

    Former Varina standout and current NFL Network analyst Michael Robinson was one of 11 inducted into the 2017 class of the VHSL Hall of Fame.  A four-year starting quarterback with the Blue Devils, Robinson finished with almost 5,500 yards of total offense and scored 37 touchdowns.  He finished with a career 47-7 record at Varina.     In the latest ESPN Top 25 recruit list for the Class of 2020, John Marshall’s Isaiah Todd is ranked as the number one High School player in the country.  Todd talks about how he remains level-headed despite all that has happened to him this past year. Former VCU standout JeQuan Lewis signed a free agent deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.  He will play in the NBA’s Summer League next month.

  • Roughriders win APF Title

    The Richmond Roughriders, in their first year of existence, clinched the Arena Pro Football League title after they beat Florida 74-61 to go undefeated in their first season in the league. They scored the game winning touchdown with under a minute left in the game on a touchdown catch from Justin Burke and sealed the win on an interception by former ODU standout Malique Johnson, who took it back for an insurance TD.  Richmond finished the season 8-0.

  • Atlee Softball completes the three-peat

    There were champions crowned in the High School Ranks.  Atlee’s Softball won their third straight State Title in 5A after a 1-0 win over their Hanover rival Lee-Davis.  Peyton St. George, in her final High School game, pitched a complete game two hit shutout and hit the game-winning HR in the 4th inning.   • Samir Doughty transfers from VCU; Area teams advance to the States

    In Wednesday’s sportscast, VCU announced that Samir Doughty will transfer from the basketball program.  He averaged nine points and almost four rebounds in 35 games last season.  No word as to why or where he will transfer.   • Hanover’s dominance continues in 4A; UVA heading to Fort Worth

    In Monday’s sportscast, the Hanover Hawks baseball team defeated Chancellor 7-0 to advance to the 4A East Region Semifinals. The Virginia Cavalier baseball team was not selected as a Regional host but received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.  They will play in the TCU Regional against Dallas Baptist Friday afternoon.
