‘Layaway Angel’ hits Toys R Us, pays $10,780 of strangers’ layaway bills

CHERRY HILL, NJ – A man being dubbed the “Layaway Angel” has paid off more than $10,000 worth of customers’ layaway purchases at a Toys R Us in New Jersey.

A man known only as Charlie K. said he wanted to make sure the Christmas wishes of as many children as possible were fulfilled  so he started paying off what was owed on layaway purchases at the toy store in Cherry Hill on Black Friday,KYW reported.

"Just you trying to bring some happiness to people,” Charlie K. said. “That's really it. Help bring back to the community that brought so much happiness to me and my family."

Customers were stunned the angel paid for 62 orders totaling $10,780.

Many shoppers like Stephanie Dawson heard the news and rushed to the store to discover she was among the recipients.

For her the gift represented seven presents for her grandchildren worth $200.

"I want to say thank you very much and I appreciate it and thank God for you," Dawson exclaimed.

Jessica Key had no idea her purchase had been paid off when she arrived expecting to pay for the big box of toys she set aside for her kids.

"They come over and tell me someone actually paid the layaway,’ Key said. “[It’s] definitely an early Christmas and I want to say thank you to the gentleman that came in and donated. It's like the best feeling, thank you."

Charlie K. also gave another $2,000 to Toys For Tots by having everyone inside the store pick out three toys for him to donate.
