Struggling college student surprised with free groceries: ‘Look at God’

RICHMOND, Va. -- Shopping for groceries can be expensive, especially when for a college student, struggling to make ends meet.

So, CBS 6 surprised a student making groceries at a local Walmart in the latest edition of CBS 6 Gives.

Reporter Amy Vu, with the help of Union Bank and Trust, surprised an unsuspecting woman at the cash checkout counter.

“So, we do something called CBS 6 Gives, I don’t know if you have ever heard of it. It’s when we randomly surprised people in the community,” said Vu. “So, If you would let me, I’d like the take care of your bill today.”

“Oh my God… are you serious?” she asked with excitement.

“Look at God,” said a friend.

“Thank you so much!” she said giving Vu a hug. “Okay, so I’m a broke college student so I really love you right now.”

“What we ask is that you just pay it forward and do something nice for someone else,” added Vu.

“Of course, Thank you for from the bottom of my heart. I love it,” said the student.
