LOS ANGELES — Rocker Tom Petty has been hospitalized after he was found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest Sunday night, TMZ reported. The news outlet first reported that he was dead, and then updated their story, and said Petty “is clinging to life.”
CBS News confirmed Petty’s death, in a tweet that was later deleted.
When paramedics arrived at Petty’s Malibu home, he was not breathing, TMZ reported.
Petty was rushed to Santa Monica Hospital and placed on life support.
The LAPD later tweeted that they had “inadvertently” provided the media with false information, and apologized.
