MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Aspiring Christian rapper Ryan Salandy will spend 18 years in prison for running over and killing his music producer. Salandy, who was convicted of second degree murder in September, was sentenced Monday.

Prosecutors said the up-and-coming gospel artist used his silver Saab to run over his friend and music producer, 25-year-old William McDaniel, in September 2015.

Investigators said Salandy never called 911, but his mother did.

"Yes, Hi. I just got a call from my son, he accidentally hit someone in Clarksburg. My son was speeding and the person jumped in front of the car,” Salandy’s mother said on the 911 call.

Ramon Korionoff, with the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, said the prosecution found several signs that proved the hit and run was intentional.

"He admitted that he floored the gas pedal and that he was going about 45 miles per hour on a small residential street, and the fact that the victim’s bones were broken, multiple fractures all through his body, really shows that this was a horrible impact,” explained Korionoff.

Multiple witnesses heard the business partners arguing about CD, according to court documents.

Those witnesses then heard tires screeching as the silver Saab sped off.

Moments later, they heard the car come back down Sweetspire Drive.

Witnesses said there was a loud noise, the Saab was seen speeding away again, and McDaniel was found on the ground.

“This was a situation where some musical CDs came between them, and Mr. Salany took it out by running over Mr. McDaniel,” said Korionoff. “Tragic that this young man lost his life over a dispute over some CDs, go to small claims court, take it out in a civil matter, but don’t resort to violence.”
