POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. – A local animal shelter is closing their doors temporarily and is calling on the community to adopt their remaining pets over the next few weeks.

Powhatan Animal Control announced they will close on December 30 for renovations. The shelter says they are also working with other animal rescues and shelters during the transition.

During their closure, Powhatan Animal Control will no longer have an open shelter to take in animals, accept stays, or owners surrender.

The shelter did not have a time frame for how long they would be close, but did say “hopefully just a couple weeks.”

Adoption fees at Powhatan Animal Control are $25.00. For more on pet adoptions, click here.

If you would like to adopt an animal, you can contact the shelter to set a viewing appointment. Visiting hours are between 1-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
