RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in East Richmond Saturday afternoon.

Police said they responded to a call for random gunfire at the Ashley Oaks Apartments on the 1500 block of Jennie Scher Road at approximately 2:29 p.m. Moments later another call came in reporting a person shot in the same area.

Upon arrival, they found the body of 28-year-old Karriem Brown of Newport News lying on the ground in the parking lot. He had suffered apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

While detectives initially ruled the shooting a homicide, the case has been reclassified as a death investigation while they review witness statements and process forensic evidence collected at the scene.

This is the second fatal shooting reported in the area in just three days. Thursday morning, 25-year-old Tychelle Johnson was found shot to death in her apartment on the 1400 block of Jennie Scher Road just 100 yards away from the scene of Saturday's shooting after a man with a gunshot wound called 911.

No one was arrested in that shooting.

Detectives say they haven't developed any information that would indicate that the two shootings are related.

Police continue to investigate and ask that anyone with any information on this shooting call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
