‘Suspicious death’ reported at Sandston apartment complex

HENRICO COUNTY, Va.  -- Police are investigating a "suspicious death" at a Sandston apartment complex in eastern Henrico.

A shooting call led police to the 5200 block of Lewis Road at about 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Paramedics rushed a victim to the hospital.

More than a dozen Henrico Police officers spent the morning investigating the death at the Gerwyn Manor Apartments off Williamsburg Road, about a mile from Richmond International Airport.

Police have not yet released details about the victim, nor circumstances around the death.

Neighbors said they were shocked to wake up to a crime scene in their front yards.

"The East End is not bad, but this is going to make it look bad," said Melissa Thidemann. "It really upsets me that this happened."

Multiple crime insider sources said two masked gunman stormed into the apartment and was shot by the man who lived there.  These law enforcement sources said they are having a hard time identifying the man because he was shot twice in the face.
