RICHMOND, Va. -- A Richmond man was charged with attempted murder and brandishing a firearm after a barricade situation ended peacefully just before 1 a.m. Friday.

Richmond Police and the SWAT team responded to a home near 35th and M Streets, near Chimborazo park, earlier in the evening for a domestic-related call.

Law enforcement sources indicated that a woman called police to report a man in the home was angry and had a gun.

The man, identified as 67-year-old Alvin E. Hopson, initially refused to come outside, but police eventually took him into custody.

The attempted murder charge was for threatening the woman in the home, police said.

Alcohol was involved in the situation, law enforcement sources indicated.

No one was hurt in this incident.
