RICHMOND, VA – Kroger will become the official presenting sponsor of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, announced Sports Backers on Monday.
Kroger, one of the world’s largest retailers, becomes the presenting sponsor for the popular annual event as Martin’s Food Markets begins phasing out of local shops purchased by Publix.
Martin’s has served as sponsor of the race since 2010, when they purchased the locally-operated Ukrop’s stores.
The partnership takes effect immediately and was announced this morning in an event at Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods.
Kroger representatives said they are excited about the partnership, have always admired the event and “look forward to working with Ukrop’s on the Monument Avenue 10k and building this partnership in the future.”
The signature event will reach its 18th year in 2017 and has become one of the largest road races in the United States. The race is celebrated by locals and visitors in a 6.2-mile block party on Richmond’s famed Monument Avenue.
Registration for the event opened the same day as the announcement, with a special Cyber Monday offer. Using the code ITSHERE when registering, participants can take advantage of a rate of $25 for adults and $15 for youth age 14 and under.
The offer expires at 11:59 p.m. Nov. 28.
Following the special Cyber Monday rate will be a Giving Tuesday registration offer on Nov. 29. Participants who donate $20 to official race charity partners Kids Run RVA or the VCU Massey Cancer Center will receive $5 off their registration fee. The offer is available until 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 29, at which point registration will close and reopen on Thursday, Dec. 1.
Additionally, registration for the YMCA 10k Training Team is also open.
The 10-week program for walkers, joggers, and runners takes place at 20 locations around the region, including two new stroller-friendly sites. Training kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017.
