NOTTOWAY COUNTY, Va. — State police are investigating after a woman was struck and killed by a car while walking on a road Friday night.
The accident occurred at 5:35 p.m. on Route 606 north of Route 460 when a 2013 Dodge Caravan traveling south came upon four pedestrians walking in the road. As another vehicle approached in the northbound lane, the driver of the Dodge attempted to avoid it but ended up striking the woman.
The pedestrian, identified as 37-year-old Connie W. Irby of Victoria, died at the scene.
Police say the roadway is not lit in the area.
The crash remains under investigation.
