Security cameras capture mother and 2-year-old son being attacked by dogs

ANAHEIM, Calif. - A 2-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he and his mother were attacked outside their California home by two large dogs early this week.

Surveillance video shows two dogs attacking a mother and child in Anaheim on Nov. 8, 2016.

The attack took place Tuesday and was captured on video by a surveillance camera on the home.

Video shows the two dogs surrounding the boy on the front lawn before knocking him to the ground.

The boy’s mother comes over to help, but the dogs go after her too.

Eventually, the mother grabs her son and makes a run for the front door, but can’t find her keys and is trapped on the porch as the dogs circle and snap at them.

"She was screaming and yelling for help," said Spenser Bishop, the boy’s father, who was at work at the time of the attack.

The mother then covered her son and attempted to shield him as the dogs continued to bite.

"It was just a constant battle for five to seven minutes of just terror," Bishop said.

Finally, a neighbor came over with a stick and pulled the dogs away from the mother and child.

The 2-year-old was taken to the hospital and required multiple stitches and plastic surgery on his face, Bishop said.

"He has a big laceration in his face and his leg," Bishop said.

The boy and his mother were recovering at home Thursday night, but Bishop said there were no words to explain how he felt watching the video.

"To see your child go through something like that, or your wife ... My wife's a hero," Bishop said.

Family members believe the dogs got loose from another home in the neighborhood.

"We will determine the history of these dogs to see if there's additional responsibility," family attorney Richard Patterson said.

Neighbors held the dogs after the attack until animal control officers came and took them away.
