Louisa County deputy seriously injured after being struck by vehicle

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. — A deputy with Louisa County Sheriff’s has been seriously injured after he was struck by a vehicle on Route 15, near Gordonsville Friday evening.

Deputy D.J. Hart was struck while helping another vehicle that was broken down on the side of the road. Investigators said the crash happened around 7 p.m.

Hart was transported to UVA Hospital in Charlottesville with serious injuries.

Louisa Sheriff’s Office Major Donald Lowe says Hart is a K-9 Deputy and has been with the Louisa Sheriff’s Office for two and a half years.

He went on to say Hart is a great man with a wife and small child.

Virginia State Police is investigating the crash.
