HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – Police said a tenant shot two suspects during an early morning invasion at a townhouse in Henrico County early Saturday morning.
Police said the incident was a justified shooting that happened around 2 a.m. at the Three Chopt West Townhomes.
Police said the suspects began by luring the homeowner outside by saying his car had been hit.
However, police said after he walked to the parking lot, the two suspects barged into his home to attempt to rob him.
Police then said the suspects got into a tussle with a woman inside the home.
When the man heard what was happening and got back inside his home, he grabbed a gun and opened fire.
Police said both suspects fled the home, but collapsed nearby.
Both men were taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. One of the suspects later died of his injuries.
Police said the man's next-of-kin has been notified, but that they will not be releasing his name until confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
A neighbor, who spoke with WTVR CBS 6 on the condition of anonymity, said he saw the suspects hanging around the area earlier that evening.
“Later on that night, I heard, ‘Pow, pow, pow, pow, pow!’” he said. “I thought it came from that way. Then I looked out the window and saw [the] fire department, ambulance.”
Police said their investigation is ongoing and that no charges have been filed at this time.
