Car slams through fence at Va. State Capitol

RICHMOND, Va. -- Two people were hurt when their car ran off Franklin Street in downtown Richmond, slammed into a fence around the Virginia State Capitol, and ended up on the Capitol lawn. Bent fencing and car parts were seen strewn about the Capitol grounds.

At least one person in the car was taken to the hospital. That person's condition has not yet been released.

The crash was reported at about 3:15 a.m. Friday.

Police continue to investigate the crash. The driver could be charged pending the outcome of the investigation.

The car has since been towed away from the Capitol grounds.

The Virginia State Capitol will be open as usual on Friday.
