RICHMOND, Va. – An alleged New Jersey gang member was arrested in Richmond Wednesday in connection with the September murder of a teen in Trenton, NJ.

Omar Kennedy, 35, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday morning while standing outside of a cousin’s address in the 1300 Block of Coalter Street.

He has been charged with murder, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun.

He was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in Richmond.

Kennedy was wanted for the murder of Lance Beckett, 19, on September 18, 2016. Investigators say Kennedy and two others allegedly lured the victim to a location where he was shot to death.

Members of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in NJ developed information Wednesday morning that Kennedy had likely fled NJ by bus two days earlier en route to Richmond.

Within an hour of receiving the information, Marshals in Richmond located and arrested Kennedy.

Police had previously arrested Quashawn Emanuel and a 17-year-old juvenile in connection with the New Jersey murder.

Kennedy is being held on a $1,000,000 bail at the Richmond Justice Center. His extradition back to New Jersey is pending.
