Henrico woman killed in parked car

RICHMOND, Va. — Police have identified the woman shot and killed Sunday afternoon in Richmond as 52-year-old Carmella D. Winston of North Ivy Avenue in  Henrico County.

Police responded to the shooting at about 2:54 p.m. Sunday East Hill Street, near St. James.

Officers arrived to find Winston in the car.  She was taken to the hospital where she died.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death, police said.

“A woman riding in a car on a bright Sunday afternoon was struck down by what appears to be random gunfire,” said Major Crimes Captain James Laino. “We need anyone with information about this tragic incident to come forward.”
