SUFFOLK, Va. – The Mr. Peanut Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony was held at Hall Place Park Saturday afternoon, WTKR reports.

The marker commemorates the “birth” of Mr. Peanut by Suffolk native Antonio Gentile in 1916 during a contest to create the Planters company logo.

Saturday’s event included Mr. Peanut, the NUTmobile and a Mr. Peanut inflatable.

This year marks the 100th year since the birth of Mr. Peanut.

The Suffolk Peanut Festival is set for Oct. 6 through Oct. 9 at the Suffolk Executive Airport.
