RICHMOND, Va. -- The autumnal equinox occurs this year on Thursday at 10:21 a.m. This is the point where the direct rays of the sun are over the Equator, and will then move into the Southern Hemisphere for the start of winter.
Although we've seen some cooler and less humid weather the past few days, humidity levels will climb by Saturday evening and stay on the muggy side through Monday night. Some less humid air will gradually filter in Tuesday into Wednesday.
The normal high for this point of September is 81°, and temperatures for the rest of the week will be above normal. In fact, highs will be close to 90° on Friday, the first full day of astronomical fall.
We are watching some cooler air returning for the beginning of next week, and perhaps another cooler period later next week.
