RICHMOND, Va. -- VCU Police are investigating a reported sexual assaulted that happened inside the Cabaniss residence hall on the MCV campus Thursday.
Students received an alert via email about the incident just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
"It's disgusting," one freshman who lives at Cabaniss Hall, said. "It's terrible that this happened here."
Students said the MCV campus is particularly quiet, which is why they were shocked to hear of the assault.
Due to the ongoing investigation VCU Police could not release details regarding the incident.
Police said the survivor knew the suspect.
Freshman Ayo Clark, who also lives at Cabannis Hall, said she was thankful the victim came forward to police.
"I feel like it's important to let people know when things happen like that," Clark said.
Clark praised VCU on its efforts to educate students about sexual violence in the beginning of the school year.
"Coming to college and having this newfound freedom, so we need to learn how to be responsible when doing things like drinking and also knowing the signs of abuse," said Clark.
Police have not released details on charges in the case.
