GRAY, Maine – A woman in Maine is picking up the pieces after she lost several animals in an early morning house fire.

Samantha Reynolds said she woke up when she heard the sirens.

"We're not really sure what happened,” Reynolds said. “Came around the side of the house and the entire house was pretty much engulfed."

Since the homeowner was not home when the fire broke out, neighbors rushed to try and rescue her animals inside.

"There was two dogs in there, there was four goats, couple of birds, couple of cats, and this little, this little guy right here," Reynolds said.

The six-week-old foster bunny named "Bun Bun" was in bad shape.

Ryan MacEachern did not think the animal was going to survive, but first responders quickly gave it oxygen and the animal regained consciousness.

"And now it's already running around eating , so I don’t think it can get any better than that really," MacEachern said.

But Reynolds said the homeowner is heartbroken over the loss of the other animals.

"Animals are her life, this is her life so she has a lot of rebuilding to do and it's going to take a lot of time," Reynolds said.

They plan to help her as best they can.

"She's helped us out quite a bit already just in the past couple weeks, hopefully we can all return the favor and make some things happen that's good for her," MacEachern said.
