RICHMOND, Va. -- Indiana Governor and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence made a surprise visit to Millie's Diner in Richmond Saturday morning. Pence spent about 20 minutes introducing himself and talking to voters.

He did not take questions from the media.

"We did not know who it was going to be," customer Dawn Klopf said when she noticed security gathering outside the Main Street restaurant. "At first we thought it was going to be someone from the Food Network."

She said meeting Governor Pence was nice, but would not impact her vote in November.

"He was really polite. It was really great to meet him," customer Lindsay Allen added.

Server Amy Robison, who has seen celebrities likes Steven Spielberg and Meg Ryan at Millie's, said it was always exciting when people of note come into the restaurant.

"He spent a lot of time talking with everyone, going around, speaking with the kids," she said. "People get excited no matter who the candidate is."

Pence has a campaign rally scheduled for Saturday afternoon in Purcellville, Virginia.

Recent polls showed the Trump-Pence ticket trailing the Clinton-Kaine ticket by double digits in Virginia.

Virginia Senator and Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Kaine once served on Richmond City Council and as Mayor of Richmond.
