Victim identified in Bethel Street homicide

RICHMOND, Va. -- Police have identified the victim of a double shootings in Richmond's Whitcomb Court neighborhood that has left one man dead.

Police identified the victim as 44 year-old Joseph C. Johnson, of the 1900 block of Whitcomb Street

Police said just before midnight, they received a call for shots fired on Bethel Street.

When officers arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. They also found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound nearby.

The man was taken to a local hospital where he later died, while the woman's injuries are non life-threatening.

Police now say that a fight broke out at a party and then shots rang out.

Lt. Jason Hudson with the Major Crimes unit said that “We know a number of people were there Friday night just before the shooting, and our hope is that they come forward,” and that their assistance is what's needed in order to find and arrest the suspects.

Police have no suspects at this time.
