Boy found floating in Doswell hotel pool dies

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- A small child was rushed to the hospital after being found floating in a hotel swimming pool in Doswell Saturday afternoon.

Hanover Fire & EMS Battalion Chief Mike Watkins said crews received a call for a person floating in a pool at the Days Inn Doswell at Kings Dominion in the 16200 block of International Drive just after 2:45 p.m. The hotel is not affiliated with Kings Dominion.

When EMS crews arrived, they found a juvenile male floating in the outdoor pool.

"Once deputies and medical personnel arrived on scene CPR was immediately began," Sgt. James Cooper with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said. "The boy was transported to VCU Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased."

Investigators are working with the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond to determine the boy's cause of death.

Officials urged anyone with with information about the incident to call the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637 (CRIMES), using the keyword “iTip” followed by their tip.
