Maryland man arrested for spraying bear repellent on infant, 4 adults

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Maryland man is accused of assaulting a group of people, including an infant, with bear repellent inside a western Maryland home Sunday.

Police said the incident started when Daniel Woolard, 28, was visiting a home and came to believe he was being set up for an attack.

Police said they were called to a home on Second Street and Virginia Avenue for a large disturbance.

When officers arrived to the scene they heard several people screaming for help.

Woolard allegedly locked himself in a room and the came out and sprayed three women, an adult male, and a 7-month-old infant with a bear pepper spray.

All five victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police said the man who Woolard thought was coming to harm him never showed up.

Woolard was arrested and charged with 19 offenses including assault, disorderly conduct, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment.

He is being held on $750,000 bond.
