Henrico man, 32, found dead outside Richmond apartment

RICHMOND, Va. — Police identified the man found dead on Chamberlayne Avenue in Richmond Sunday morning as 32-year-old Desmond L. Holmes.

Holmes, of the 7900 block of Tamarind Place in Henrico, was found dead about four miles from where he lived.

When Richmond Police arrived at the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue just past midnight Sunday, officers found Holmes unresponsive in the parking lot of an apartment building.

“Holmes had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene,” a Richmond Police spokesman said. “The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death. Detectives are investigating this case as a homicide.”

Witnesses said they heard eight gunshots that evening.

“There are several apartment complexes in the immediate area and detectives are hopeful that additional people may have information related to this incident,” a police spokesman said.
