FORT THOMAS, Ky. – The parents of an infant ejected during a car wreck in February are now facing charges after Kentucky police released startling traffic camera video of the incident Friday.

The graphic video shows the seven-month-old thrown from a car window, flying 30 feet into the air and then landing on the side of I-275 in Kentucky.

Police said a driver who witnessed the crash did not initially realize what he had seen hurling out of the vehicle as it rolled over was a baby.

"The baby came out and landed on the rocks, so the gentleman picked it up, and he couldn't believe... that the baby was alive,” Lt. Rich Whitford with Fort Thomas Police said. “That he was physically and mentally distraught after seeing that occur right in front of him."

Video from the scene shows a car seat in the back of the car.

There was a car seat in the vehicle, but it does not appear the baby was strapped in.

The child was in critical condition, along with his mother who was also thrown from the car.

The accident killed the driver, Michael Gilliam, who police said was high on heroin.

Fort Thomas Police said they just received the blood results conducted on the baby’s parents, which were also in the car, showed both were high on heroin, too. Both have been charged with criminal abuse.

"That they've put a serious physical risk at under 12 years old, their child, that they allowed someone to operate a vehicle who was on heroin also," Lt. Whitford said.

Police are now looking for 34-year-old Amanda Thomas and the baby's father, 42-year-old Billy Lee Jones. He walked away from the crash.

"We've been trying to call and going there trying to find them,” Lt. Whitford said. “There's a warrant. There's a $50,000 bond, so if they do see this, call myself. Call the Fort Thomas Police, or turn yourself in at this time."

The infant fully recovered and remains in the care of relatives.
