HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – Traffic was backed up for miles after a charter bus caught fire on I-95 south in Henrico County Wednesday morning.

VDOT reported the fire closed all southbound lanes of the interstate near Parham Road around 8 a.m.

No passengers were on board the bus, which was headed from New York to Charlotte, NC, when the fire broke out.

The driver spotted the flames coming from the back of the bus and was able to pull over.

Officials said they are not sure what sparked the fire,  but believe it was mechanical.

No one was injured.

Virginia State Police officials on the scene said it would likely be an hour before the scene was cleared.

As of 9 a.m., one lane of the interstate had reopened, but traffic was baked up more than three miles.

However, all lanes of the interstate reopened around 11:15 a.m.
