Suspect entered home, fatally shot 25-year-old King and Queen man

KING AND QUEEN, Va. — A homicide is under investigation by the King and Queen County Sheriff’s Office.

A shooting occurred early Tuesday, August 16, in the 6200 block of Newtown Road.

When deputies arrived they found 25-year-old James Edward Byrd “Scooter” dead from a gunshot wound.

It appears that the suspect or suspects came into the home and shot Byrd.

The only description at this time is that of the suspects had on a black hoodie.

Route 721 Newtown Road is shut down from Route 619 Owens Mill Road to Route 666 Sorghum Road as law enforcement investigates.
