OMAHA, Nebraska -- Three months after Elizabeth "Lulu" Gilreath lost most of her scalp in a carnival ride accident, the 11-year-old Nebraska girl is pushing for change. She has started to collect signatures on a petition in an effort to make rides safer, KETV reported.

The petition asked for a new law that would require ride operators to undergo medical training and CPR certification.

"I don't want any other kids to get hurt scalped - have to go through what I'm going through," she said.

Lulu was critically hurt when her hair got caught in the "handle bar assembly" of a carnival ride.

After months of recovery, she said she hoped Lulu's Law could make a difference.

"It makes me really sick to know that all this is happening and nothing is being done," Lulu's mother Virginia Cooksey said. "More needs to be done - more people need to be held accountable."

The investigation into the ride that hurt Lulu is on-going.  Her family's lawsuit against the company that operated the ride is pending.
