CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a baseball bat attack in Chesterfield County on July 11.

Timothy L. Humphries, 59, has been charged with felonious assault in an incident that left 18-year-old Damon Peregoy with serious injuries at VCU Medical Center.

The recent L.C. Bird High School graduate told CBS 6 the last thing he remembers about the night was pulling up to a stoplight at the intersection of Centralia and Chester Roads.

Peregoy suffered a depressed frontal skull fracture, broken nose, eye socket and a fractured jaw during the attack. Police said they believe a baseball bat was used.

Doctors say Peregoy will have to endure several facial surgeries -- and has months of recovery ahead of him.

His family started a fundraising account online to help with his medical expenses.

Police have not released a possible motive in the attack and their investigation is ongoing.

Humphries has been transported to Riverside Regional jail.
