HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Henrico Fire and Rescue held a drill Friday to practice rescuing a diver from the James River.

After pulling the distressed diver from the river, Henrico Fire and Rescue took the mock victim to the Chippenham Hospital Wound Healing Center so he could be treated in the hospital's Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) chamber.

"This drill will show the collaborative efforts between Chippenham and our emergency service community partners who keep divers safe if they were to become injured and need access to HBO," a hospital spokeswoman said.

HBO is used to treat people who get decompression sickness -- like scuba divers or people in high altitudes. Symptoms of bends include joint pain, extreme fatigue, and rashes.
