RICHMOND, Va. -- In late July, CBS 6 told you about a severe algae problem at Fountain Lake in Byrd Park that covered more than half the lake with an unflattering layer of green algae.

A viewer contacted CBS 6 Problem Solvers after he said the smelly problem lingered for over a month.

"Why would anybody want to come and enjoy the lake and ride a paddle boat when there's nothing but nasty smelling algae?" Jim Bickerstaff asked during our investigation.

"I drive across the bridge every day during the week and it just gets bigger and bigger and it's just a nasty eyesore." added Bickerstaff.

After we reached out to Richmond’s Department of Public Works nearly two weeks ago, the issue at Fountain Lake is nearly gone.

Bickerstaff contacted CBS 6 Monday elated at the recent treatment of the Bryd Park lake.

New photos and video shows clear waters at Fountain Lake Monday afternoon, a stark contrast from the green-like mat from July 28.

Bickerstaff thanked CBS 6 Problem Solvers for pushing Richmond Public Works to take care of the issue in a timely fashion.
