ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. -- A Virginia woman had to be rescued from the mud after she followed her dog onto a partially empty Albemarle County lake, Newsplex reported.

"My dog saw a goose and ran after the goose into the lake," Peacock Hill resident Carolyn O'Neal told Newsplex. "Well the dog and the goose got stuck and since my dog had caused this goose to get stuck in the mud, I not only needed to rescue my dog, I needed to rescue the goose too."

While her dog was able to free himself, O'Neal got stuck in her attempt to save the goose.

"The floor just sank underneath me and I went hip deep into the mud," she said.

Fortunately she had her cell phone and called her husband and 911 for help.

"With all the rains we've been having, any low lying area, or any area that doesn't normally see a lot of water could cause this kind of rescue to occur," Battalion Chief Steve Elliott said.

Elliott said if you ever saw someone stuck in the mud, do not try to rescue them. Instead call 911 for help.
