VERNON, Conn. — A woman in Connecticut was arrested following an argument that culminated with her throwing lighter fluid on a group of people that included a young teen.

Laverne Mayo faced a judge on Wednesday in Rockville.

She was released on a promise to reappear in court on Aug. 31.

Police said Mayo was initially taunted by a 3-year-old child from the window of a neighboring Union Street apartment.

Just before 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, an argument ensued between Mayor and several adults who live in the apartment.

The argument led to Mayo picking up a nearby bottle of lighter fluid and spraying it at the group, which included a 15-year-old teen, according to police.

Police said some of the fluid struck the arm of an adult, but the group was able to shield the teen from it.

No one was hurt.

Police said they arrested Mayo at the scene and charged her with second-degree breach of peace and risk of injury to a child.

She was initially held overnight at the Vernon Police Department in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
