PORTLAND, Ore. — It’s already rare for a mom to have triplets, and doctors believe it is even rarer to have identical triplets, but a Portland hospital just helped a local couple welcome the trio into the world.
Raelyn, Avery and Elaina were born at Providence St. Vincent in Portland on Monday morning. All three sisters are each under four pounds and are at the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, KPTV reports.
The medical team there said the girls are doing well and so is mom, and they should be able to go home to Newberg in a few weeks.
It’s a big bundle of joy for their parents, Amber Hills and Logan Brown-Fletcher, as the identical triplets are the couple’s first children.
“They showed me all the babies and man, I started crying again and again,” said the triplets’ father, Logan Brown-Fletcher. “I still cry every once in a while, because they’re my kids and it’s amazing to think that I have three baby girls, born the same day, minutes apart.”
Officials with the hospital say there aren’t any stats about identical triplet births, but it is a rare thing.
To give you an idea – at Providence St. Vincent, there were a little over 4,000 births last year. Of that number, there were just four sets of triplets and 128 sets of twins.
The girls’ father says it’s not hard to tell them apart right now because they’re not all in the same place at the hospital. Plus, one of them is a little bigger than the other two.
He says they’ve already toyed with the idea of having them wear different earrings when they’re a little older, which might help everyone else tell them apart.
