ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. -- The family of a four-year-old California boy is pleading for the return of the child's prosthetic leg. The group went on a beach outing and someone swiped the boy's leg and more while the family played in the water.
"They took my clothes, my shoes and my prosthetic leg," Liam Brenes told CBS Los Angeles.
The custom-fitted prosthesis was stolen Sunday morning at Crystal Cove State Park in Orange County as Liam and his family explored the tide pools.
"I feel bad for him because his leg was just stolen, and the people who stole it probably didn't even think twice about that, like didn't even care something important was in there," Liam’s brother Aiden Brenes said.
Liam was born without a fibular bone and had part of his leg amputated when he was a baby.
Sunday was his first trip ever to the beach.
Liam's dad and aunt left a bag and a cooler on the sand with his prosthesis sitting on top.
Liam wore his old prosthetic leg, which is too short, in the water as not to damage the new leg. But when the Brenes got back to their spot, everything was gone.
"I’m angry, kind of mixed emotions. I'm angry and sad: angry at the people who did this and sad for Liam," Liam’s brother Connor Brenes said.
Park rangers have searched the area for the prosthetic leg. Liam's mom has been blasting the news on her Facebook.
"I’m not sure why you would take that at all. It's a child's leg," Liam’s mom Amanda McFarland said.
Guess what's now at the top of Liam’s Christmas list?
"A Ghostbusters leg," Liam said.
"If you have a chance can you at least give us back the leg and glasses," Aiden pleaded.
Yes, Aiden’s glasses were stolen too.
