RICHMOND, Va. -- Monday will likely be the hottest day of this recent stretch of hot days, with afternoon highs in the upper 90s to around 100°.

A heat advisory is in effect from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m., as the heat index is expected to reach between 105° and 110°.

There may be a few isolated thunderstorms up in the mountains during the afternoon and early evening (rain chances will be at about 20 percent).

A front will move into the region on Tuesday and wash out across the state during the middle of the week, acting as a trigger for some scattered thunderstorms.

Any storms that develop will produce very heavy rainfall.

The heat will diminish very slightly with highs in the low to mid 90s the second half of the week.

Our extended computer models are hinting at the possibility of a bit more relief by next week.
