1 killed, 4 injured after gunman shoots at motel, drivers on Volunteer Parkway in Bristol, Tenn.

BRISTOL, Tenn. — One person was killed and four others were injured, including a police officer, in what officials called a random shooting early Thursday morning in Bristol, Tenn.

WJHL reported the shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Volunteer Parkway near a Days Inn and auto parts store.

The Tennessee Bureau Investigation said the shooter, who was armed with two guns, fired off shots at the Days Inn as well as vehicles traveling along Volunteer Parkway.

When officers arrived on the scene, the TBI said the suspect started shooting at law enforcement, who returned fire.

One officer was wounded. Four other people were injured, including the suspect. They were taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center.

The names of the victims as well as the suspect are being withheld pending the completion of the investigation.
