HENRICO COUNTY, Va. – A suspect has been arrested after police say a stolen gun fell from his pocket as he was climbing a Henrico family’s fence Wednesday evening.

The incident began around 7 p.m. at a home off the Richmond-Henrico Turnpike near Richmond International Raceway.

That is where a family sitting in their front yard said a man walking along the turnpike tried to cut through their yard.

Family members said they told him he could not go through their yard, but that did not stop him.

“So the guy takes off running and goes to the backyard,” reporter Jon Burkett said.

Family members said they followed him and even asked if he was OK. That’s when witnesses said the man ran again.

“I go back in the house, next thing I look out the window and he’s hopping the fence – and I see a gun drop… And then my mom called the cops,” one witness recalled.

Police arrived and the suspect was arrested. Officers said the gun was stolen.

The family said they believe the man had walked from the Essex Village apartment complex.
